The IDEA Board of Directors began developing topic ideas, and formed a subcommittee to devote time to producing the annual calendar of educational seminars that draws so many to the event. Many people in the door and access systems industry are unaware of how much time and effort goes into this project, each and every year. The subjects change with the challenges and opportunities that confront door dealers, but the strategy is always the same: What are the issues of greatest importance to our members at this time Then, we seek to produce an educational line- up that will address those issues. There are times the most important issues repeat themselves, but we make every effort to create an all-new schedule each year. I can commit to you that the 2018 IDEA educational seminar line-up in Las Vegas will be of great value to any door dealer who attends. It will be of greater value than the cost for you to attend, and your time away will be an investment in your company's success. It occurs to me that planning for Expo isn't exclusive to the people who produce the events. For Expo to be truly successful, those who comprise the audience must also plan ahead. For too many, the event is viewed as far away for most of the year, until late winter, when it is right around the corner. I am a door dealer, so I understand the nature of our business. We are busy. We have jobs to schedule, projects to complete, payrolls to meet…running a business is a day-to-day challenge. If it weren't, everyone would own one. However, instead of that being a reason not to attend the IDAExpo, it's really just an excuse for poor planning. Attending the Expo requires good planning, in several ways: As the owner, I must block the dates, including travel to and from the event, and any additional days I want to add for my own well-deserved downtime. What seminars will I attend I must determine where my needs can best be addressed during the two days of education so that I can come back with solid new ideas that directly meet those needs. Who do I take with me I can't attend everything I want to attend, so I need to have at least one other member of my team cover the seminars and other events that I can't cover. Who among my installers and technicians deserve the opportunity to attend a two-day technical school and sit for certification examinations This is best accomplished as a reward to those who pursue your company's success in the field, in front of your customers, and requires advance registration to give them time to begin studying their certification materials. Which suppliers do I want to meet with What types of new products might help my business to diversity The IDA Expo happens only once each year. It is the single best four days in which a door dealer can gain new management ideas through educational seminars, meet with existing suppliers and product manufacturers, and find new products to offer to a broader base of potential customers, and have a great time in the process. But, we all have to start planning now! IDEA is planning. You can be sure that IDA is planning.
