Putting it another way, I have always challenged myself to never stop learning. Learning helps all of us become better at what we are doing and it gives us a tangible credential stating we have an education which is an amazing goal and accomplishment. This is precisely what IDEA helps our industry technicians and companies accomplish. Accredited Dealers and Certified Technicians are truly above the crowd. They standout and continue to achieve their goals through IDEA educational credentialing. When I was asked to be on the IDEA Board I considered it a privilege and still do. Anyone walking into one of our board meetings will see us communicating and working together. Indeed, we are a team dedicated to achieving our goal of educating door and access systems industry personnel and companies to help them attain their own goals. Allow me to expand a little further: Communicating: We have 14 members on our Board and one would not know walking into our meetings who represents IDA, DASMA or the AFA. We discuss issues. We strategically plan for upcoming events and everyone is encouraged to voice their opinions. I believe this is a very good thing. Now, we don't always agree on details, but we do always come to an agreement for moving forward to accomplish our goal. Education Is The Foundation Of Our Name Working: Whether it is revising a Study Guide or determining the solution to an industry request, the IDEA Board does whatever is necessary to get it done. IDEA directors devote numerous hours of their own time to make sure educational materials are the best possible. Education: During the 2018 IDAExpo® we tested 192 people. This included the two-day classes that were presented on Wednesday and Thursday. With the addition of those tested in Las Vegas, IDEA has increased both Certified Technicians and Accredited Dealers. The totals are: 181 Certified Technicians, 11 Accredited Dealers, and 7 Master Technicians. I might add that this is no small feat for these people – it is a great accomplishment for each of them! In closing I would like to personally thank all the people involved in making this industry one of the best and always striving to move it forward whether through educational testing, the standards by which we are regulated, or just by giving of themselves. We have so many great people and resources in our industry – it is a privilege to be the IDEA president.
