PRESIDENT'S COMMENTARY By Ed Hermanns, President, International Door Association John Maxwell, leadership expert and author, said "Change is inevitable; growth is optional." Most of us are resistant to change, unless of course it is our own idea. IDA is now embarking on a season of change with the recent move from Long & Associates to Kellen Company as the new IDA management team. I would be remiss in not recognizing the time and efforts from Chris Long and his staff working with IDA and I hope you will join me in wishing Chris and the Long & Associates family well in their future endeavors. We recognize the many IDA achievements that occurred during the Long & Associates tenure and intend to build upon those milestones moving forward. As we look to the future of IDA, Maxwell's statement is important: growth is optional. I believe that the opportunity for growth at IDA is limitless. Whether it is emphasizing the "I" in IDA to expand the organization's influence across the globe, growing the domestic membership to welcome a much larger share of US door dealers to IDA, or expanding the programs and improving the benefits of IDA membership, your IDA board of directors and staff from Kellen are committed to growth. We have a solid team in place to serve as your IDA staff and to help IDA during this time of change. (See pages 30 and 31 for staffing update). The IDA Board of Directors and the various board committees responsible for the strategic vision of the association are dedicated to improving the value of IDA membership. As we look to future growth opportunities, we must remember that the door business has been under scrutiny by some because of the questionable business practices of a few. Improving our industry reputation along with DASMA has been and will continue to be in the forefront of our endeavors, and bringing new members to the table is the best way to spread the word. We also hope to offer some new initiatives to IDA's international members and new member prospects. So, what is on the horizon for IDA? The 2019 IDAExpo ® is being expanded beyond any growth levels in history. By joining with AFA and NOMMA, the IDAExpo, AFA FENCETECH and NOMMA's METALfab will be held in a single venue. More education. More networking. More exhibits in a single place than any time in our history. This is an exciting development to provide IDAExpo attendees with a world class conference experience. The IDA leadership team is already looking ahead to the 2021 IDAExpo, when we will mark the 100th birthday of the overhead sectional door. Rest assured we will be planning for a very special observation of that milestone! We continue to look toward the future and all the opportunities for growth that IDA has in store.
