ASSOCIATIONNEWS Question & Answer with Mike Batoff – IDEA Certified Residential & Commercial Sectional Door Systems Technician, Batoff's Garage Doors and Service, Philadelphia. Part of IDA's Young Professionals Network's (YPN) mission is to foster and create mentorships among the international door industry. As an IDA member, you get the opportunity to learn from people all over the world on a variety of subjects that affect all of us; whether it is through a magazine article, or having the opportunity to visit the IDAExpo ® , or one of the regional shows. The goal is to highlight standout members of the industry with interviews and by sharing some of their ideas and wisdom with the rest of the industry. Mr. Mike Battoff, an IDEA Certified Residential and Commercial Sectional Door Systems Technician and owner/founder of Batoff's Garage Doors and Service out of Philadelphia. Q. How long have you been in the door industry? A. I started in the industry 12 years ago, at the age of 13, installing residential garage door openers and repairing and servicing sectional door systems. Q. How did you get started in the door industry? A. The occurrence can be seen as an anomaly, as none of my family have ever been in the industry. I've always liked mechanical devices and developed a passion for doors and the operators that drive them! Q. What advice do you have for technicians contemplating becoming certified? A. I say go for it! You can never have too much education on the trade in which you are working. It will do nothing but help strengthen your abilities! Q. How has your certification benefitted your company? A. I find that a lot of my customers respect the fact that I dedicate time to obtain IDEA certifications.
