ASSOCIATIONNEWS This month, we would like to introduce you to Matt Vanderhoff from All Jersey Garage Door in East Hanover, New Jersey. Matt has IDEA certifications in three categories: Residential, Commercial Sectional and Rolling Steel doors. He is an asset to the industry and a great resource to other technicians. How long have you been in the Door industry? Since late June, 1995. How did you get started in the industry? My father was working for a local garage door company and the day after high school graduation, he knocked on our front door at 7 a.m. He asked if I needed a job and I told him yes. He said, "good, then get dressed." I've been in the industry ever since. What advice do you have for technicians contemplating becoming certified? I would highly recommend getting certified. Not only does it confirm what you do know, but it can educate you on what you don't. How has your certification benefited your company? Our company has been approached by many large clients who have asked if we are certified. Being able to say 'yes' has not only helped secure the contract, but shows we have taken the time and effort to get the training needed to do the job thoroughly. What type of door do you enjoy working on, and why? I started in residential and spent quite a few years there, but I really enjoy commercial work. Particularly rolling steel doors and high speed curtains. I find enjoyment in the challenges those types of doors pose. Continued on page 65 62 International Door & Operator Industryâ„¢
