John noted that one of the advantages of attending the annual IDAExpo is being provided the opportunity to visit with other dealers and learning from them as well as sharing ideas. Many of the company policies, sales techniques, and marketing approaches were a result of him interacting with his fellow 'doormen'. "I also am very interested seeing product and service vendors to learn what's new, and what I can add to my product line to help us increase sales," he added. In addition he told me that many of his ideas are generated from what he reads and sees in the IDA magazine, International Door & Operator Industry. "I read the articles, look at the photos, and learn a great deal from what is shared by other dealers," John asserted. The company maintains a presence in the Yellow Pages which they feel is a necessary evil. It participates with coop advertising with some of their product providers, and utilizes a website. "We don't sell products via the web, but it does provide links to our suppliers, and a contact form," John noted. "It basically tells people where we're located, what we do, and features a number of photographs of different jobs we've done," he added. One thing that the company has done is added a QR code to the stickers they affix to installed openers. According to John, the vast majority of smart phones can read the opener sticker code which now can open the door to the younger and tech savvy buyers (pardon the pun). When asked to list three key attributes of his company, John responded, "Honesty, Personal Customer Assistance, and On Time Service Calls."
