Institute of Door Dealer Education and Accreditation NEWS&EVENTS; Training, Exam Prep, Bundled Pricing Combine to Make the 2013 IDAExpo™ Historic for Certification By Todd Thomas IDEA is introducing to the IDAExpo™, a two-day course in rolling steel and rolling steel fire doors that will serve as both an introduction to the products for those new or entering the commercial door arena, and as an exam preparation course for IDEA certification programs covering those two disciplines. IDEA is planning the event in anticipation that it will be the largest single certification examination event in our industry's history! In the past couple of years, IDEA certification has become a force in the industry. Emerging as an eventual standard, door and access systems technicians holding IDEA credentials are beginning to find opportunities that previously did not exist due to a lack of recognition by the general public regarding industry certification. As the population of certified technicians has grown, demand for credentials has begun to set them apart from other door companies. As a result, IDEA has planned a major event as part of the 2013 IDAExpo™ that would enable dealers who are either not yet on board with certification, or have pursued only a portion of it, to springboard into the future with a one-stop, low cost opportunity. This special event applies to two of the IDEA technician certification programs: Commercial Rolling Door Systems and Rolling Steel Fire Doors (testing for all IDEA credentials programs is available at the IDAExpo™ during its regular testing sessions on May 8 and 9). There are three components to the special event: A Bundled Approach To earn both the Commercial Rolling and Rolling Steel Fire Door Technician Certification designations, a candidate would pay $450 in registration fees. Under a new policy adopted by the IDEA Board of Directors, individuals seeking both of the certifications at once are granted a $100 discount, resulting in a bundled price of only $350. For individuals already holding one of these credentials, the $100 discount will be applied to the remaining application fee, enabling them to take full advantage of the price reduction even after having paid the undiscounted rate previously (See example in chart). Certification fees are paid directly to IDEA and can be submitted on-line, by check or by credit card. IDA is providing a special registration fee for attendees of the 68 International Door & Operator Industry™ two-day IDEA training course on these programs, and that constitutes a separate registration. Those fees are $125 per person for IDA members and their employees, and $150 per person for non-members. Bundled Fees $100* RSFDTC Only $150* Both Programs $350 CRDSTC Only $200 RSFDTC Only $250 Both Programs Unbundled Fees CRDSTC Only $450 *Applies to individuals who have already paid regular (unbundled) fees for either the Commercial Rolling or Rolling Steel Fire Door Certification programs. Unless seeking the other matching credential, or enrolling in both programs simultaneously, the regular fees remain in effect. Classroom Instruction IDEA has prepared an in-depth two-day training course, utilizing experts on rolling steel and rolling steel fire doors, to deliver the educational portion of the event. The educational programming is open to anyone who wishes to attend the two-day class, but requires the special registration as made available by IDA. Continued on page 70
