INDUSTRYNEWS Carley Pearce Sponsor: Boston Area Door Co. School: Suffolk University Carley is attending Suffolk University, where she is studying criminal justice and playing for the soccer team. She was very sports-driven throughout high school, playing soccer for three years, cross country for one year and winter/spring track for all four years, acting as captain during her senior year. Carley was also involved in community service during high school, with the most frequented place being the Veteran's Club, where she cooked for veterans and learned about them through their stories. Her career goal is to work for the FBI as a criminal psychologist. Kaylee Polena Sponsor: Thomas V. Giel Garage Doors Inc. School: Kent State Kaylee is a second-year transfer student at Kent State University. She is majoring in visual communication design and minoring in marketing. Her goal is to perform internships for the Pittsburgh Penguins and at Walt Disney World. In the long run, she would like to either start her own graphic design business or work as an Imagineer for Walt Disney World. "I am grateful for this scholarship to help me financially with the rest of my schooling. I am grateful to the IDA for the help!" Carley Rortvedt Sponsor: Midland Garage Door Manufacturing School: University of North Dakota Carley is a senior at the University of North Dakota, pursuing a bachelor's degree in medical laboratory science and minoring in psychology. Currently, she is completing an eight-month clinical internship at the VA hospital in Aurora, Colorado. Her goal is to continue on to graduate school for MLS or a related healthcare field so she can make a difference in the lives of patients through laboratory innovation and research. School: North Dakota State University CJ is a freshman at North Dakota State University, studying mechanical engineering. CJ's ultimate goal is to eventually return to his hometown of Alexandria, Minnesota, to work in the manufacturing industry. "I grew up in a community that strongly believes in being involved and giving back. The manufacturing businesses were very involved with my high school and made it their goal to be involved in my school district through the math, science and manufacturing- based classes. Many classes available were due to the willingness of people at these businesses taking an active part in sharing their industry knowledge with students. After college, I want to be able to use my education to help youth in my community to spark their interest in learning." Jaden Silva Sponsor: DH Pace Company School: University of Kansas Jaden is a sophomore at the University of Kansas, majoring in community health and minoring in applied behavioral science. She discovered the career path of Foreign Aid Worker while in high school and knew it was meant to be, as her career goal has always been to help the less-fortunate. In order to prepare her for this career, she will study abroad in Leeds, England, during spring 2019. "I will strive to make valuable contributions to those in need, and as a result, help many people with the knowledge I have the privilege of sharing.
