You are not staying up to date in your feld and the industry itself. Ask yourself when was the last time you went to an IDAExpo or Educational Conference? Do you regularly read our trade magazines like the one your reading right now? All of us should be in the mindset of learning to master our level of expertise no matter what is. 3. You are not seeking or taking advantage of new opportunities. If you don't seek or take advantage of opportunities your skills become stale. Doing the same thing over and over gets boring. You remain invisible. Your supervisor does not know the value that you contribute. What if the company you work for changes? What would your position be if that occurs? 4. You are not maintaining or building a network of business contacts. You don't need to be searching for a new job to build a network of business contacts. If you don't build relationships at your current workplace and stay tuned to what's happening or about to happen, you will not be privy to critical information that can infuence your position. 5. You don't risk sharing your opinion or ideas. For fear of upsetting the status quo or potentially disagreeing with your boss or fellow workers can hold you back from speaking up. If you don't take the risk to voice your opinion, people will assume you have none. It's not important to agree with everyone all the time. It's not important to be liked as much as it is being perceived as someone who contributes value and has the strength of their voice. Are you in danger of falling into complacency at you place of work or in your business? If so, beware, because this is a competitive marketplace and environment where the necessity of learning new skills, new technologies, and new processes are critical to both maintaining your current status and moving ahead.
