DOORDEALERDIALOG (continued from page 22) Van Buren said he thinks the industry and its organizations have done a good job promoting professionalism and the quality of the products that dealers sell, install and service. "Garage doors have moved up the food chain in the housing construction industry," Van Buren said. "It used to be the last thing anyone ever thought about. Consumers put garage doors below their kitchens, bathrooms, entry door and windows when it came to remodeling their home. The manufacturers have done a good job of getting more attention for the quality and design-enhanced garage doors. More people can now see that one of the best ways to make your house look great is by putting a great looking garage door on the front of it." Lead Commercial Technician Jimmy Runkle, preparing to unload his truck after a replacing a rolling steel door. He also credits IDA, DASMA and IDEA for giving dealers opportunities to gain new knowledge, fnd new products and work together to beneft the broader industry and each individual player in it. "Expo is a great event because the manufacturers come together with IDA to create an event where you can see what's available out there in the industry, meet new people, network with people you already know and really gain a sense of what is happening, said Van Buren. And I am big believer in the educational seminars put on by IDEA. The educational emphasis on Expo has really gone a long way in putting the focus on our professionalism as dealers." Van Buren, who has been an IDA member for as long as he can remember, explained why he believes in association membership: "The importance of IDA is that it ads credibility and professionalism on behalf of its members. It has really helped change things for the better in the last ten years. You see that by the quality of attendees at the trade shows, both at Expo and others, such as the CODA show (California Operator and Door Association). The quality of education is very good. The IDEA certifcation and accreditation programs give us the opportunity to prove our professionalism to our customers. I really think all of the industry groups have done a great deal of good by working together to promote, advance and showcase professionalism."
