Cartell Driveway Alarms and Gate Openers Announces 38 Year Anniversary Preferred Technologies Group introduced Cartell driveway alarms in 1975, offering home owners a stand-alone system that would alert them when vehicles enter the driveway. Cartell did this by turning on lights, cameras and audible devices. It was the frst vehicle detection product introduced to the industry based on magnetometer technology. In the early 1980's, Preferred developed a Cartell system that integrated directly with any security system. It was quickly adopted by security professionals as a perfect accessory to security systems. When vehicles enter the driveway, Cartell uses the security system to turn on lights, cameras, audible devices and notify police and monitoring stations. As the smart home industry evolved, Cartell driveway alarms were integrated with home automation systems, adding the convenience of automation to the driveway. When vehicles enter the driveway, Cartell can trigger lights to come on, cameras, chime at keypads, initiate email notifcations and any other feature the home automation system supports. In the late 1990's, Cartell introduced gate openers & free exit systems to the automatic gate/access control industry. Now home owners could have their powered gates automatically open when leaving their property without the use of keypads, remotes or key fobs. Sold as an accessory by manufacturers like Chamberlain, U.S. Automatic, Byan Systems, and more; and by hundreds of distributors across the U.S. For more information please visit www.cartell.com. 90 International Door & Operator Industry™ The American Architectural Manufacturers Association (AAMA) has updated and released AAMA 925-13, Specifcation for Determining the Vertical Loading Resistance of Side-Hinged Door Systems, which determines the ability of a side-hinged door system to remain operable following the application of a vertical load along the lock stile of the door leaf. Through the life of a side-hinged door system, there may be several causes of an extraordinary vertical load to be applied to the door leaf. The door loads in AAMA 925 are based upon the pullout values of hinge fasteners in wood, and the specifcation determines the effects of such loads when applied to a side-hinged door system. Although the defection and permanent set results are not used in the qualifcation of the tested side hinged door system, these results are recorded for potential future use in AAMA 925. "The revised version of AAMA 925 was made possible by contributions from task group members representing a crosssection of door component manufacturers and test laboratories," says Mark Fortun (Endura Products), chair of AAMA's Door Vertical Loading (AAMA 925) Task Group. "Changes enhance the clarity and fow of this test procedure and set the stage for a consistent means to evaluate the resistance of a side-hinged door assembly subjected to intentional high loading conditions." Among various editorial changes, AAMA 925 was updated from the 2007 document to include: * Requirement for force-to-latch at the beginning of testing * Minimum number of times testing will be conducted * Repetition of force-to-latch measurements (as specifed in Section 6.2) * Updates to Section 7.6 to record the average force-tolatch measurement before and after loading. AAMA 925-13, along with other AAMA publications, may be purchased from AAMA's Publication store. For more information about AAMA and its activities can be found via the AAMA Media Relations page or on the AAMA website. AAMA is the source of performance standards, product certifcation, and educational programs for the fenestration industry.(SM)
