Recipients INDUSTRYNEWS Mackenzie Conine Alycia Buenger Industry Sponsor: Napoleon/Lynx, Archbold, OH School: Ohio State University, Columbus, OH "I am a senior at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. I am majoring in Comparative Cultural Studies with a minor in International Development. This combination has provided me the opportunity to perform feld research abroad during my undergraduate years. From January to August, 2013, I researched fair trade relationships with a coffee cooperative in the Northern parts of Nicaragua. I lived with families, hiked the mountain trails, planted potatoes, and interviewed farmers about their coffee felds. Upon graduation, I look forward to continuing my work in fair trade, perhaps creating a home for myself abroad." As an advocate for Fair Trade, Alycia co-founded the Ohio State Students for Fair Trade in 2010; then the following year she participated in the opening of Ohio State's frst fair trade retail store on-campus, GlobalGallery @ OSU and became manager of the store and President of the club in 2011. In 2012, she created an internship opportunity for herself at the Ten Thousand Villages store in Archbold, OH. Katherine Borland, Honors Thesis Advisor, said, "We are very excited about Alycia's research. She is a very talented student who has taken on exceptional challenges as an undergraduate." Industry Sponsor: Service Spring Corp, Maumee, OH School: Kent State University, Kent, OH "I am looking forward to graduating from Kent State University with my bachelor degree in Music Education Choral/General and teaching a high school choir in the state of Ohio. I plan on staying involved in Christian ministry; however I am still unsure of how it will play into the course of my life. So my focus for this part of my journey through life is to continue doing well academically and to focus on preparing myself to become a music educator. I am also continuing to serve through the on campus church I attend called H2O. I am excited to see where the Lord directs me." Mackenzie is active in Kent State's Ohio Collegiate Music Education Association and acts as the treasurer, the American Choral Directors Association and volunteers for events held in Kent Sate's Scholl of Music such as the annual National Association of Teachers of Singing competition and Choral sight Singing Workshops. She also participates in the Ballroom Club on campus that is a student group where they learn dances from a variety of cultures. She volunteers her time for Children's Church, Christian Worship Team and Christian Leadership training. Carolyn Schermbdck, Director of communications and Outreach, Mainstreet Church says of Mackenzie. "Her outstanding qualities and character will lead to a bright future in which I am certain she will make a positive difference in our world."
