I also will hand write the date of service and what work I
performed. This handwritten information is very benefcial for
future reference. This will remind you and the homeowner
not only what has been done but, when it was done.
Once all of this has been accomplished, you are in a
position to visually inspect the opener's force settings. Often
times these settings are set excessively so it is important
to properly set them now and perform the recommended
testing. UL-325 directs us to place a piece of wood 1 ½" on
the ground, in line with the electric opener. The opener's
reverse function should activate within 2 seconds. After
showing this procedure to the homeowner, advise them it
should be performed once a month. I suggest homeowners
perform the basic service/lubrication every six months.

As you see, the basic service call is quite simple to
perform, but it is critically important. It exposes you to the
homeowner, permits you to build a relationship, provides
you the ability to teach the basics of our industry, and
replace worn out components.
