34 International Door & Operator Industry™ INDUSTRYNEWS Carter Dahl Region 4 Sponsor: Tri-State Garage Door, Sioux Falls, SD School: South Dakota State University, Brookings, SD "I am attending South Dakota State University for civil engineering because I have always had an interest in the construction of buildings and other public structures. Through several classes offered at my high school through the Project Lead The Way program I saw the extremely vital role civil engineers play in the society as a whole. Civil engineers are involved in almost every facet of daily life and their choices affect many more people than they could even imagine. Civil engineers have a responsibility to perform their job to the best of their abilities to ensure the safety of all people who use the structures they designed. With a degree in civil engineering I hope to positively impact the world by making sure everything I build is constructed up to code and is safe for generations to come." Carter was the Valedictorian and President of the National Honor Society, Captain of Basketball and Baseball teams, played golf, preformed with the band and served many projects and programs as a volunteer in high school. You need to work hard to achieve your goals. I feel that honesty and integrity should be the qualities of everyone in society in order to make the world a better place. I hope to become a successful contributor to society and have the opportunity to enjoy life along the way. Nathan is interested in computer science and multi-media communications.
