INDUSTRYNEWS Hubert Apple Industry Veteran Passes The founder of Apple Door in Richmond, Virginia, Hubert Apple, Jr. recently passed away from complications of surgery. He founded Door Trouble, Inc. in 1973, which ultimately was renamed Apple Door Systems, Inc. A man who only made it to the eighth grade, Hubert parlayed a door repair service he ran from a house trailer to a multimillion door business. His son, Dan joined his father's business in 1978 following service in the military. "I persuaded Dad to sell doors as well as repair them," stated Dan. Hubert Apple dropped out of high school to support his family, and continued his service to others throughout his life. "He had an uncanny ability to fi nd bargains and loved to show up unexpectedly to share them with friends," stated Dan. "He had been taking chemo at the cancer institute and would show up with candy for everyone," he added. Hubert Apple is most certainly an excellent example of how drive, determination and dedication can create a success business enterprise. "The IDA is proud of his achievements and his many contributions to the industry he helped create," stated Chris Long, IDA Managing Director. Hörmann Flexon LLC Breaks Ground at Starpointe Business Park Hörmann Flexon, LLC conducted a groundbreaking ceremony at Starpointe Business Park in Burgettstown, Pennsylvania, on July 9, 2012, for the location of their new industrial door manufacturing facility. Many employees from Hörmann Flexon along with represen- tatives from Fourth River Development LLC, the Washington County Council on Economic Development, the Pittsburgh Regional Alliance, local business leaders, along with state and local government representatives attended. Pennsylvania State Governor, Tom Corbett, spoke during Mon- day's event saying that his recent visit to Germany exemplifi ed the similarities between the U.S. and Germany with regards to work ethic and pursuing the best in business ventures. The plan is to build in three phases beginning with a state-of-the art 68,000 sq. ft. facility which will be designed to house the industry's most advanced industrial door production process with room for future expan- sion to as much as 220,000 sq. ft. The approximate completion time- frame is 12 months, with completion estimated for late summer, 2013, at which time Hörmann Flexon's Leets- dale, Pennsylvania operation will be moved to Starpointe Business Park. Mr Ward wasn't present when his name was drawn but after a few phone calls in trying to locate him Keith came back to the show fl oor and happily accepted his New Apple IPAD. Congratulations Keith! Keith was surprised to have won, he could't get back to the show until after the show had ended so he had to make his way thru the forklifts and tear- ing down commotion but he happily received the IPAD engraved with the words "Congratulations from Rasco Industries". Keith said "Wow thanks!"
