Institute of Door Dealer Education and Accreditation NEWS&EVENTS; When that organization merged with the Door and Operator Dealers Association in 1995, I was unaware that I would eventually have the opportunity to serve as president of both IDA and IDEA. But, here we are. Given this unique opportunity to serve our industry through both of these organizations, I fi nd myself not at the end of a journey that began more than 20 years ago, but rather at the beginning. The measure of success of IDEA ultimately will be determined by how our training, education and credentialing programs enable door companies to grow and succeed, regardless of the economic environment. It's not lost on us that credentialing has grown since the economy stumbled three years ago. As more dealers recognized they needed to set themselves apart to gain a larger portion of a smaller market, many sought help from IDEA Accreditation and Certifi cation, and we believe that experience is being shared in growing numbers. We also have seen an enormous jump in Rolling Steel Fire Door Certifi cation activity, as manufacturers – led by Overhead Door Corporation and Wayne-Dalton – have begun encouraging dealers to certify technicians who install, drop test and service fi re doors as a means of establishing standards that are long overdue for these products. Our overall support from manufacturers, and the increased use of our programs by dealers is certainly encouraging. I am confi dent that the current IDEA leadership is up to the task of taking these activities to an even higher level in the next two years. It is my hope that when I turn the presidential gavel over in 2014, that I am able to say that I have been a good steward of an organization built over many years by others who came before me. In that regard, I am honored to serve with industry leaders such as Mark Daus, Dan Dombkowski, Joseph Chisholm, Bearge Miller, Steve Guyton, Karen Cohen, Casey Pacetti, Mark McManus, Debbie Nagele, Michael Whitacre and Dick Lano. Thank you for giving me this privilege, and I look forward to seeing this outstanding organization continue on the path that was forged by Dan Apple and the many industry visionaries who have served IDEA since 1996. 72 International Door & Operator Industry™
