We did the repair, billed and collected the payment. Only this time, we received a check made out to "Door of the Month Club." It's nice to have a sense of humor." As all successful dealers would agree, respectful treatment of employees is critical to their success. One of the perks they provide their employees comes in the form of a one-half hog, cut and wrapped for their family. For years, the couple has supported their local 4H program, and purchased livestock during the fair. They believe in sharing their bounty with their employees. Another way they recognize contributions made to the company by employees is by providing seven paid holidays of which one is the person's birthday. Both Lawrie and Melissa agreed that today's consumer is more knowledgeable about garage door products than ever before. Melissa refers to it as the "Burger King" world. "They come to us after perusing the Internet, and are very specifi c with the product they want," she stated. "And, they want it today," she added. As we completed the interview, I inquired about what attributes have made them successful. Without hesitation, Lawrie responded, "We are fair, dependable, and honest."
