In addition to a vast product offering, I was impressed with the extensive knowledge possessed by their 185 associates. If one considers the fact that the average tenure of these people with the company is 10 years, the total years of industry talent is extraordinary. Northwest Door wasn't immune to the recent construction market collapse, and experienced some reduction in their business. However, because of its impressive offering of retrofi t and up-sell products, it has been able to turn an obstacle into opportunity. "We've continued to innovate in our products and services which has allowed us to enjoy good growth during the past two years," stated Jeff. The four men were cautiously optimistic about the immediate growth of new homes, but do see some signs that builders are constructing more houses. Their optimism remains positive in regard to the retrofi t/ upgrade markets. We talked some about research and development. The company has invested heavily in product development, but is not necessarily interested in being the fi rst to market.
