Katarina Bourne Region 5 Sponsor: Overhead Door Co of Central Oregon, Bend, OR School: Central Oregon Community College, Bend, OR "I am someone who loves math and chemistry, so much so that I am a sophomore double major. I love that math can explain so much of our world and that chemistry is everywhere. I want to continue to explore our world through math and chemistry." Katarina plans to take a PhD in either Math or Chemistry or both and become a Professor. Justin Hanson, a former employer, said, "She exceeded my already high expectations. Kat is a bright, responsible young woman with a great future in front of her. I wish her the best." Ryan Clavin Region 4 Sponsor: Overhead Door Co of St. Louis, St. Louis, MO School: Westminster College, Fulton, MO "My name is Ryan Clavin and I will be a sophomore at Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri. I am majoring in Business Management and minoring in Communications. I hope to run a not-for-profit business or be in charge of admissions at a High School or College after graduating. During my Senior year in High School, I was an Ambassador for the school, received the Gold Circle Award, Marianist Award and was presented with the Archbishop May Award that recognizes students for their service to the community. My first year of college, I earned a spot on the Dean's List. Along with being a student while attending Westminster College, I will also be on the baseball team as a pitcher and outfielder. Thank you very much for honoring me with the IDA Scholarship." Ryan achieved the Dean's List for both semesters of his freshman year. Christian Curry Industry Sponsor: Overhead Door Corp., Lewisville, TX School: University of the Redlands, Redlands, CA "This year I will be a sophomore at the University of Redlands double majoring in Public Policy and Economics. Last year, I served on the Convocation and Lecture committee bringing speakers to the university and I served on the Elections Commission making sure that the student elections were run fairly. In May, I participated in a school sponsored Public Policy class in Washington DC. It was insightful to see what we studied in action and to talk with people working in my field of interest. This year I plan on running for Senator of my residence hall and possibly getting an internship in Washington DC over the summer. Upon graduating, I want to use the skills I learned at the University to create better policy in DC. Thank you IDA for giving me the opportunity to continue my studies." Christian is also an Eagle Scout. This past year, he was part of a mission to Piura, Peru where he participated in building homes for those in need. Kyla Dane Region 5 Sponsor: Door Systems of Montana, Helena, MT School: Carroll College, Helena, MT "I grew up in Great Falls, MT, where I attended CM Russell High School. There, I participated in track and field as a discus thrower. I had wonderful coaches and outstanding teachers that got me where I am today. I hope to graduate from Carroll College in Helena, MT. As a freshman, I look forward to receiving a degree in Health Sciences to attend Physician's Assistant school. I hope to work as a Pediatric PA here in Montana helping kiddos get better!" Kyla's membership with HOSA – Health Occupation Students America, enabled her to receive Basic Life Support Certification and Nursing Assistant certification. (continued on page 21) Congratulations!
