ASSOCIATIONNEWS 76 International Door & Operator Industry™ By Roy Bardowell, III By now everyone should know that the 2018 IDAExpo ® will be conducted in Las Vegas, April 25-28. From one door dealer to another, I urge you to attend and take advantage of the numerous business building opportunities to be presented. Isn't that good news? It is for certain! In 2012, I attended my first IDAExpo in Las Vegas and we all had a blast. But more importantly, we attended the educational programs, and sharpened our business skills…ones we applied immediately upon our return home. We also made contact with hundreds of product and service providers. As in past years, the IDA Expo will feature invaluable educational programs, face- to -face networking opportunities, exhibits, and tons of fun events. The educational program provided by IDEA is second to none, and trust me when I say you will be very satisfied for attending. Last year I attended the Expo in Atlanta which was one of the best ever. In my opinion, the Atlanta Aquarium social event was absolutely superb! Another major advantage of the Expo is the event presents the best opportunity to network with manufacturers and service providers; opportunities to make good deals that help you sell and profit more. Each time I attend, I learn more about industry products; something all dealers need to do. We all desire to be the best at what we do, and the IDAExpo is molding us into professionals, making endless opportunities available for us door dealers, installers, and service personnel. You can't hit the Lottery unless you play, and you can't reap the benefits of Expo if you aren't present. Yes, it does cost money and time to attend, but the payback to your company more than offsets the cost. Believe me because I am speaking from experience. My father has attended every Expo since 1972, and he says if you want to get ahead in this industry, you must attend this annual event. During the 2017 Expo, I made a dozen new contacts saving me thousands of dollars…all since April. This can work for you also, and once you cut a better profitable deal for your company, you will see that attending Expo really doesn't carry a cost, but rather is a cost savings mission. I know so much more now than my first Expo, but also understand that there is always more to learn. The contacts and connections I have made at Expo are invaluable and have made me not only a better tech, but equally important, a better person. Understand one thing, please. You really cannot find as many offerings anywhere else to enhance your business. So, come one, come all! Let's party together and all become more profitable, and professional. Seriously, who woudn't want that? Just walking on the show floor and meeting hundreds of other garage door people will give you a nice feeling. You will, as I did, realize you are part of something good: an industry of garage door and operator professionals. It won't take you long to realize that everyone there is improving themselves in one way or another. The Expo is the best place to sharpen your competitive and professional edge because you are surrounded with the support of the finest professionals in our industry. START YOUR PLANNING NOW! Roy G.
