North Little Rock, Arkansas .com Debra Welhener, Managing Director Michelle Hardisty, Administrative Manager, Sheila Sharp, Accounting Manager, Since the founding of IDEA, the number of accredited door dealer companies, and certified personnel has grown significantly. Here's an impressive breakdown of the numbers as of September 15, 2017: • Accredited Dealers ........... 242 • Residential Installers ........ 475 • Commercial Sectional ...... 397 • Commercial Rolling .......... 550 • Rolling Steel Fire .............. 153 • Gate Operator .................. 627 • Gate Designer .................. 367 • Sanctioned Trainers ......... 513 Yes, the numbers are impressive, but they can be even more so. Although the numbers reflect industry-wide acceptance of the IDEA mission, I personally feel that we need to spread the word more among our industry peers. In addition, we need to tout the fact that our companies are IDEA accredited and our personnel are IDEA certified. Uniform patches, truck decals, company letterhead and business cards, and advertising are just some of the tools we can use to promote IDEA. Today's customers want to do business with a professional, and recognize the importance of a company that has attained a high level of professionalism via training, education, and experience. The IDAExpo ® will be conducted in Las Vegas, April 25-28, and it is an excellent site to participate in IDEA-produced workshops, and to test for either accreditation or certification. I encourage you to take advantage of the opportunities offered during IDAExpo to help you improve your business. For more details, visit the website: When I became an accredited door dealer, one might say that I "Put my money where my mouth is!" Well, I'm prepared to do it again, only a little differently by offering a challenge. Here is my challenge: During the period between IDAExpo 2017 to the end of IDAExo 2018, I will make a personal contribution to the IDEA in recognition of all those who either become an accredited door dealer, a sanctioned trainer, or certified technician as follows (with $5,000 cap): $50 for each new accredited dealer $25 for each new Residential certification $25 for each new Commercial Sectional Certification $50 for each new Commercial Rolling Certification $50 for each new Sanctioned Trainer I encourage you to accept my challenge and do what you can to help me support the IDEA, as the organization continues to support our industry. By Joseph Chisholm, IDEA President Interested in a Challenge? Mine is a Good One! Like most of the readers of this magazine, my living is derived from the door and access systems industry. As the IDEA president, I speak on behalf of a very dedicated Board of Directors; men and women who individually and collectively dedicate themselves to the common goal of increasing professionalism within our industry.
