North Little Rock, Arkansas .com Debra Welhener, Managing Director Michelle Hardisty, Administrative Manager, Sheila Sharp, Accounting Manager, Since 2012 through November, 2017, the total percentage of all IDEA certification programs has grown by 125%! In 2012, the total of certificated dealers and technicians was 1,761. As I write this article, the number is 3,958! In anyone's book, this growth is truly phenomenal. So why you might ask is the reason for this growth surge? I contribute it to a least these four things: Leading door dealers are recognizing the advantage of being accredited and utilizing certified technicians to help enhance their professional image in their respective markets. This is becoming more and more important as the industry strives to combat the impact of unscrupulous door dealer actions; actions that have most definitely tarnished our image. Another significant reason for this fantastic growth must be attributed to the support of numerous door manufacturer training programs, and the expansion of IDEA testing during these programs. The IDEA Board of Directors and staff owe a great deal of gratitude to these companies: Wayne-Dalton, Overhead Door Corporation, Cornell Cookson, and CHI. All study materials are now available on line, and we've bundled some of the programs to offer cost savings to those applying for certification. Dealers and technicians are increasingly attending the annual IDAExpo® where they can obtain CEUs and participate in testing. Take a look at these numbers and percentages: Program 2012 TODAY Dealer Accreditation 27 245 7.93% growth Residential Certification 260 479 84% growth Commercial Sectional 125 400 69% growth Rolling Steel Fire Door 50 571 1,042% growth Automated Gate Operator 400 629 57% growth Automated Gate Systems Designer 70 377 438% growth Master Technician 12 84 575% growth Certified Door Dealer Consultant 50 151 89% growth It is important to note that Master Technicians which includes all four door certifications has grown at such a huge percentage. In additional Sanction Trainers has grown 22%. For those of you interested, testing will be available during the 2018 IDAExpo in Las Vegas at the Rio. Testing dates will be Wednesday, April 25th, and Thursday, April 26th from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. If you are looking for more than just testing a tech, I urge you to have your techs participate in a two-day school either for Residential and Commercial Sectional or Commercial Rolling and Rolling Steel Fire Door with testing following class on the afternoon of the second day (both conducted on April 25 and 26). If you're interested in attending an IDA Regional Conference, the next ones are: March 1-2, 2018 Philadelphia, PA with testing on the 2nd from 8:00 a.m. to noon June 1-2, 2018 Denver, CO with testing on the 2nd from 8:00 a.m. to noon As I previous mentioned, applying for certification online is easy and convenient and study material is provided by an email link as soon as the application is submitted.
