PRESIDENT'SCOMMENTARY PRESIDENT'SCOMMENTARY IDEA...Job Well Done! The IDA Board of Directors has just concluded our October leadership meetings and, as always, I am impressed with the effort, dedication and commitment these men and women have for our association and industry. During these meetings the IDA Board, IDAExpo Committee, and the Technology and Education Committee received updates from the IDEA regarding multiple items the Institute is working on for the association. I want to acknowledge the men and women of the IDEA Board for their work, dedication and commitment. Though founded in 1996, many people do not understand why the IDEA was formed and what services they provide to the door dealer. The Institute of Door Dealer Education and Accreditation (IDEA) was originally formed by the IDA, NAGDM (National Association of Garage Door Manufacturers) and ARDI (American Rolling Door Institute) to provide professional development within the door industry. Later, the NAGDM and ARDI merged to form the Door & Access System Manufacturers Association (DASMA) which now equally supports the IDEA with the IDA. Both DASMA and the IDA appoint six people to form the IDEA Board. The current members are: Garry Stewart, President; Dan Dombkowski,1st Vice President; Bearge Miller, Treasurer; and Directors: Mark Daus (Past President), Richard Lano, Mark McManus, Joseph Chisholm, Deborah Nagele, Karen Cohen, Casey Pacetti, Steve Guyton, and Michael Whitacre. These men and women give their time to support, grow and build the programs and education provided by the IDEA to the door dealer. The IDEA offers multiple programs that increase the door dealer's level of professionalism. These programs include: Door Dealer Accreditation, Residential Installer Certifi cation, Rolling Steel Fire Door Technician Certifi cation and Commercial Sectional Door Systems Technician Certifi cation. These programs are improving both companies and technicians in our industry. Please visit the IDEA website www.dooreducation.com to learn more about these valuable programs. The IDA fully supports these programs and recommends that our members complete the programs that will benefi t their companies and technicians. Additionally, the IDEA plans and conducts the seminars that are offered at the IDAExpo each year. During the years, the IDEA Board has provided wonderful seminars that build door dealer management, sales, and technical skills. The IDEA Board spends a tremendous amount of time and effort to provide quality educational programs at the IDAExpo. Currently, the IDEA is assembling another strong set of educational seminars for next year's IDAExpo in Nashville – May 8th through the 11th. The IDA is committed to making the IDAExpo an educational platform that will allow door dealers to continuously build their skills and strengthen their company year in and year out. On behalf of the IDA Board, I want to personally thank the entire IDEA Board for the important job that they perform and for their commitment and dedication to door dealers. The IDA has and will continue to support and work with the IDEA on developing and providing education, certifi cation and accreditation for door dealers. IDEA…Job well done, indeed. 8 International Door & Operator Industry™ Para la versión en Español, visitare www.doors.org By Michael Beltrami President, International Door Association
