INDUSTRYNEWS (continued from page 68) Stephanie Pittman Region 6 Sponsor: Marvin's Garage Doors, East Bend, NC School: University of North Carolina, Greensboro, NC As a sophomore, Stephanie is majoring in Nursing. Some important aspirations she plans to achieve throughout her four years at university are: to obtain her Bachelor's degree, maintain her GPA to stay on the Dean's and Chancellor's list, and most importantly to become a well educated pediatric nurse. At Greensboro, she is involved in the Association of Nursing Students, where there are many volunteer opportunities available. It is a struggle to pay for the expenses of college and I am very blessed to have received the IDA Scholarship this year. Thank you, I appreciate all your help. Chloe Plecash Region 10 Sponsor: Make Door Pro Your Garage Door Co., Surrey, BC, Canada School: The University of British Columbia, Vancouver, BC, Canada In her third year of her Bachelor of Kinesiology programs at UBC, Chloe hopes to eventually become an occupational therapist. In the more immediate future, she is excited to spend her school year volunteering with elderly populations at BodyWorks Fitness Centre and volunteering with BCU REC which runs the recreational sports leagues and athletic events around campus. She plans to play soccer, softball and dodge ball and of course leave ample time for studying! I am so grateful for the generous IDA Scholarship which will help enable me to participate in all my passions this year at university. Kassandra Rauch Region 4 Sponsor: Consolidated Doors, Milwaukee, WI School: The University of Wisconsin, Madison, WI As Ludwig Wittgenstein wrote, "the limits of my language mean the limits of my World." This is a statement that Kassandra holds to be true, and she has discovered of late that her most pressing goal in attending college and beyond is to make her world limitless. She feels it is a lofty task indeed, but as a prospective linguistics major she fi nds that language is something that binds everyone together, and it would be a shame to miss out on the thousands of connections that 70 International Door & Operator Industryâ„¢ could be made if only people were willing to step outside of their comfort zones and reach for them. The world is fi lled with wonderful people, demonstrated by those who have made it possible for her to attend college; she believes it is her duty to make the most of the gracious opportunities she has been given and reach out to the world, help where she can, acknowledge whomever she can for whatever amazing things they have done, and continue to strive to be an informed, global citizen. It is my job to make a difference and I plan to continue pursuing every opportunity within my reach to make it happen. Halen Sanders Region 7 Sponsor: Access Door Systems, Austin, TX School: East Texas Baptist University, Marshall, TX Halen is a Freshman this year and is undecided on her major. In High School she participated in basketball, cross country, and track and demonstrated her leadership abilities as a mentor, in church youth groups, and as a class committee member. Coach Jamie Nicholson, basketball, said, "Halen has exhibited leadership abilities and is extremely responsible. Her teammates and classmates look to her for guidance in all types of situations. Halen deserves all opportunities open to her to further her education and continue to grow into an amazing young woman." Grant Sowards Region 8 Sponsor: Central Utah Door Co., Orem, UT School:The University of Utah, Salt Lake City, Utah Because of the IDA Scholarship program, I am able to fi nish my undergraduate studies at The University of Utah where I am a double major in Chinese and International Studies.
