Institute of Door Dealer Education and Accreditation NEWS&EVENTS; IDEA Planning "Can't Miss" Educational Focus for 2013 Expo in Nashville By Todd Thomas Celebrating the Tune in to Education theme of the 2013 IDA Expo, the IDEA leadership team is placing a strong focus on sales, marketing, business management and dealer profi tability for the educational programs in Nashville. The objective of the IDEA Board of Directors is to create programming that dealers will recognize as "can't miss" education, making the Expo a great investment for their businesses. For the technicians, IDEA is planning a two-day training school on rolling steel doors, including rolling steel fi re doors. The sessions are patterned after the "Best Practices" approach that was used during the 2012 Expo in Las Vegas, but focuses on the specifi c installation and servicing issues relating to rolling steel doors. "As a dealer, I know how much I've learned during the years at Expo," said IDEA President Garry Stewart. "Since joining the IDEA Board, it's been a great experience to participate in this side of the Expo, and knowing that education is the part of the event that gives attendees a solid return on the money they spend to be there." The offi cial schedule of educational seminars is expected to be released in December. The sessions will include a mix of industry specialists and professional speakers from outside the door industry. Some of the topics being prepared include several approaches to sales and marketing, succession planning, valuating a door dealership, performing a proper takeoff and submitting winning proposals, how to grow through diversifi cation, exceptional customer service, offi ce effi ciency, fi nancial management, dealing with third-party vendors, legal issues impacting dealers, time management and technology. IDEA will also provide a workshop on its activities, including how to access continuing education credits for certifi ed technicians.
