DOORDEALERDIALOG Their company mission is "To be the Customer Service Leader in the Garage Door Industry," and this is a story of how they're going about it. David's current success as a dealer took root as a young man pursuing his educa- tion. A summer job landed him with a small garage door company, where he was fortunate to be paired with a seasoned vet- eran who liked undertaking complicated jobs. David discovered he liked working with his hands and the challenges that come with the job. He moved up in the business, running the operations. When that company was purchased by an owner whose focus was contractor work, David went to work for another door dealer. Working all day and going to school at night, spending 70 hours a week at both, took its toll on David, and he and Julie, who by now were parents of one-year old Nicholas, decided to open Mount Garage Doors. It was a way to balance family life with a promising career and David has had no regrets. Their home offi ce started in a spare bedroom, then moved to the basement and now their business is conducted in a separate addition to the home. Education is what David has used his IDA membership for with great success. His business was IDEA accredited in 2002, followed by his IDEA certifi cations: Residential Installer – 2005; Rolling Steel Fire Door Technician – 2007; Commercial Sectional Door Systems Technician – 2008; and Commercial Rolling Door Systems Technician – 2009. He became an IDEA Sanctioned Trainer in 2004. David is one of only 14 IDEA Automated Access Systems Master Technicians, established in 2010 as the highest form of professional recognition in the industry, and an accomplishment reserved for those individuals certifi ed in four disciplines. In addition, Brian Mount, who has been with the company for 14 years, is IDEA certifi ed as a Residential Installer and in Commercial Sectional. John Sachs, an installer with Mount Garage Doors for seven years, is IDEA certifi ed as a Resi- dential Installer. Jake Leister is the newest member of the installation/service team at four months, and he is currently learning on the job and beginning to specialize in troubleshooting. The youngest member of the Mount Garage Door team is son Nicholas, 16 years old in October. Nicholas has been a part of the business since age eight when he started participating in National Rebuilding Together, a family and business charity effort. During the April 2012 Rebuilding Day, Nicholas installed a 16 ft x 8 ft door for the fi rst time by himself. So, sit back and relax and get ready to read about how this one small business Continued on page 18 "Our company is reliable, knowledgeable of the industry, and focused on our clients' well being." left to right: Dave Mount, President, Nick Mount, Helper, Julie Ford-Mount, Vice President VOLUME 45 ISSUE 6 2012 17
