38 International Door & Operator Industry™ (continued from page 36) refused to let form. Adam was an employee, and he would have to earn his way into ownership, no matter how deeply Bill wished for that to happen. In December of 2011, the senior management team unanimously voted to name Adam Weber as President of the company. Looking back, Adam wouldn't change a thing. He appreciates his earliest days in the business, working in the warehouse and as an installer. "My experience as an installer helps me a lot," said Adam Weber. "I'm one of them – some of them trained me. They know they can come to me, because we know each other, and I know what they are dealing with." From installation experience to meet- ing the rich and famous in Cincinnati, Adam is learning it all. It's not uncom- mon for Bill Weber to run into sports celebrities, team owners or high profle broadcasters when he is in town. Intro- ducing his son to the likes of Cincin- nati Bengals headcoach Marvin Lewis, or Hall of Fame Cincinnati Reds radio broadcaster Mary Brennaman, is anoth- er part of the job in running AE Door and Window. Community involvement and industry leadership are also part of the mix, and Bill Weber has instilled all of these activities into his son as part of his preparation for succeeding him. Adam is involved in a local charity to provide research funding for fght Cystic Fibrosis. He is Vice President of the Cincinnati Homebuilders Association. He has been honored as one of the Top 40 Under 40 by the Cincinnati Business Courier. The transition has not yet been completed, but the critical decisions have been made. For Bill Weber, the key to the business succession plan is communication. "You have to be very open with your people," he said. "You can't leave it for your employers to wonder what is going on, and the same goes for the family. You have to communicate exactly what is going to happen, when it's going to happen and how it's going to happen. There are a lot of dynamics to factor in, communication is key."
