I n s t i t u t e o f D o o r D e a l e r E d u c a t i o n a n d A c c r e d i t a t i o n NEWS&EVENTS; 74 International Door & Operator Industry™ This is a good time to order certifcation study materials in advance of the IDAExpo™. High quality employees who are qualifed for technician certifcation will be motivated by the opportunity to attend the event, and return home with professional credentials. Technicians enrolling for either of these two courses must choose which they will attend because the classes run concurrently; individuals can attend only one of them. There are other opportunities for technicians at Expo as well. On Wednesday, the IDEA Train-the-Trainer class will be conducted. The program will be led by IDEA Master Trainer Ed Bellock, a professional trainer with Liftmaster. Mr. Bellock worked with the IDEA Board of Directors in 2000 to develop the course, and has been the IDAExpo™ Train-the-Trainer leader since its debut in 2001. Cost for the full-day class is $350 per person, which includes lunch. The IDEA Train-the-Trainer class provides two major benefts to door companies: 1. The class is invaluable to experienced technicians who are given training responsibilities within a company. It teaches training skills, evaluation methods, effective communication and other aspects of training that go beyond having a strong technical knowledge. The class does not cover technical aspects of the door industry. Attendees are presumed to have that expertise, but coupled with professional training skills, combine to enable attendees to train at a much higher level of effectiveness. 2. Upon completion of the course, graduates are designated as "IDEA Sanctioned Trainers," which authorizes them to sign certifcation applications on behalf of other candidates. Most IDEA technician certifcation programs require applicants to be fully and fundamentally trained in the discipline for which they are seeking a credential. IDEA Sanctioned Trainers are accepted as authorized signers on certifcation applications, verifying that a candidate has met the training criteria. On Saturday morning, the Annual SuperTech seminar will take place. Led by veteran door technician Richard Lano, and a panel of co-hosts, attendees will learn about tools and techniques of installation and troubleshooting that veterans of the industry have discovered. SuperTech attendees are provided lunch in the Exhibit Hall and a special registration rate if not otherwise registered for the IDAExpo™. Make the IDAExpo™ an opportunity for your technicians! Consider incentivizing them to earn their way to Las Vegas, and to leave Las Vegas with new information, training skills or certifcation credentials. Your company will beneft and your technicians will be more productive and proftable as a result. For more information on IDEA programs, visit: www.dooreducation. com.
